The garbage patch in the pacific

The human being is the most polluting being on the planet. Plastic is one of the most used materials and the one that does the most damage to nature,90% of the plastic produced in the world is not reused or recycled; This plastic ends up in rivers that are then dragged into the oceans where they are dragged by oceanic gyres, these ocean gyres are large systems of rotating marine currents, which cause different types of human waste to accumulate forming the well-known islands of garbage.

The largest garbage island is located in the North Pacific between Hawaii and California, and since its discovery in 1985 it has done nothing but expands, to this year it has been 1,6 million square kilometers measuring 3 times France and accumulating more than 80 tons of plastics and fishing nets. Although the UN ( United Nations) tried to find a solution in 2015, the responses by the countries near this island of garbage was nil, they washed their hands, letting pollution take over the sea.

The most devastating consequence is the death of thousands of marine animals that are trapped in plastic waste, or even confusing them with animals, they end up eating them and causing their death. But for humans, there are also consequences of their actions since it affects the food chain, a fish that ends up eating the microplastics and survives in the process and reaches the table by fishing presents in its organism bisphenol A, a compound carcinogenic in humans that occurs when plastic breaks down, thus ingesting a dose of your lack of consciousness along the way.

On this earth day, human beings must become aware of their actions and how it affects not only nature but also itself. Keeping ourselves informed about how we pollute every day is one more step towards a global solution.
